Boundary Waters Daredevils

If you know anything about my wife and me at all, you know that we thrive on taking extreme risks that place ourselves and others in harm’s way. This extended weekend is no different.

Mel and I are spending the weekend up north at the in-laws, where we have been doing some incredibly risky activities, like watching sunsets without UV eye protection:

The next day we really started to take some risks. We wanted to go out and play in the water, but the expiration date on our sunblock was passed. NOT A PROBLEM. We will use expired sunblock without thinking twice about it. Also, my life jacket was ill-fitting. So risky!

Canak = Canoe/Kayak

While we were out braving the harsh sunlight, we spotted this extraordinarily tall Crag of Death. Naturally, I had to jump off it. But first, I had to climb it.

And then Mel jumped into the lake – HEAD FIRST!!!

We might need to slow down a bit. Things might be getting a little bit TOO risky, even for us…

    At least no one’s commented about how your risky behavior threatens Kung Pao. Oh wait, I’m commenting first…

    Looks like a fun little weekend! Glad grandma/grandpa could watch Claire so you two could go play! Say hi to Blayne/Charlene for me!

    So fun! Loved the video.

  • Looks awesome, I’ve been to Quetico and numerous other locations north of BWCA but never to the BWCA itself. It’s on my bucket list.

    I am disappointed. I enjoyed the commentary on the bike box – I want to see a kayak box!

  • Raegan – don’t fret. KP was with us for the whole canoeing journey. I’ve got her laying on the floor of the Canak. The only scary part was when the Canak (and KP) floated off without us while I was busy jumping off rocks.

    Hey, how did you like the canoe/kayak? I’ve been wanting to get a kayak for a while now, and Blayne mentioned how much he liked this one.

  • @Katie – I loved it – but I’ve never been in a real kayak, so I don’t know how it compares…
