Morning Schedule

I’m always strugging to find the right morning schedule that works for me. I’d like to be in some sort of routine, but it’s just not working for me right now. I’m always sleeping in, snoozing too many times, getting to work later than I’d like, skipping my morning runs, or something else.  Sometimes I shower, sometimes I don’t.  Sometimes I eat a quick bite, sometimes I don’t.  I’m curious to know if my faithful readers have had any more luck establishing a morning routine than I have.

How strictly do you adhere to a morning routine (i.e. perform the same tasks at approximately the same time each morning)? If not, why not? What varies in your morning routine?  Do you keep hitting snooze as much as I do?

Also, I could use an bacon & egg sandwich right now.  You too?

  • I have the exact same issues, Reuben! I would love to adhere to a morning routine. I know I'd get more done.

Just yesterday, I had an epiphany about my problem. It all starts with what time I go to bed the night before. Sunday night, I went to bed at a reasonable hour. Therefore, my body naturally woke up on its own at 5AM with no problems (which was an hour earlier than I had set my alarm). I woke up and got a ton of stuff done in my morning routine before I had to leave to school. It was awesome.

Fast forward to last night: I crawled into bed somewhere near 11PM. I then kept doing the snooze and reset my alarm trick this morning and eventually made it out of bed, rushing out the door 12 minutes later than I wanted to leave. And without showering none-the-less. It sucked.

I've come to see that it's not so much as what is in the morning routine as it is in getting myself to bed earlier. When I'm rested, I feel more ready to get up in the morning and tackle the day!

P.S. I do want a bacon and egg sandwich right now! You buying?

  • Carpooling with a coworker has helped me stay on a schedule. With the pressure of someone else depending on me to either be outside on time or pick him up, I'm lot better at getting out the door in a timely fashion.

Then again, I completely and utterly failed this morning (http://becauseemilysaysso.blogspot.com/2010/06/morning-chaos.html), so I'm still getting the hang of it.

  • Most of my life I have struggled in the morning. I was always hitting my snooze button and running late (and many times running after a bus). This caused a lot of stress in the morning.

Then I married Ben. He wakes up when his alarm goes off (I usually don't hear it). After he showers he wakes me up and I get up. So much less stress and rushing around in the morning. Just one of the extra perks of being married to Ben.

  • 1 Snooze…read scriptures…nap…brush teeth and put on clothes…nap again…leave for work. And don't forget to wake the wife up before you walk out the door.
