There’s an awesome Christmas lights display in South Minneapolis you gotta check out. Troy Lykken broadcasts some Christmas music over 97.9 FM, and the lights flash & flicker in sync with the music. The address is 3201 41st Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55406. They’ve got about 5 songs or so that play in a loop and are choreographed with lights. It’s worth a drive over to see them.
I was really impressed with the interpretation of the music with the lights. I’m usually quite unimpressed with visual representations of music. Fantasia was totally badass, but other things like the Bellagio water show or especially the iTunes visualizer have fallen terribly short in visually interpreting the music. But I was pretty impressed by this lights show – specifically in how well the lights represented the movement and emotion of the music. I def recommend it.
Apparently it’s been going on for a few years. Local pizza blogger Aaron Landry was talking about it back in 2006, and there are youtube vids from 2007 (although, I don’t recommend you watch the vids – they don’t do this years show justice). Also, Minneapolis Metblogs was talking about it in 2007 as well.
