Scope Creep

I’ll post some photos later, but for now, you’ll get the text version of what we’ve been up to lately. I talked earlier about scope creep – where Mel and I set out to do a small project, and it snowballs into a giant and neverending project. Here’s the latest:
We set out to paint the hallway. Easy weekend job, right? Just slap a couple coats of brown in it and you’re done, right? Hmmm… Somehow, “painting the hallway” has morphed into replacing 3 interior doors, installing an attic access panel, removing and replacing significant chunks of walls and ceiling, re-framing a couple roof trusses, vacuuming out all the old insulation from the attic, furring out the roof trusses, and installing new attic insulation. ALL just so we can paint the hallway!!!! What?
So far, We’ve got the doors installed, and we’re about a quarter of the way through vacuuming out all the old insulation.
We’ve set a deadline of Thanksgiving for ourselves to have everything finished & painted – because we’re tired of the scope creeping and want to start recreating again. Right now, all we ever do is work on projects around the house. And we enjoy it, but we’re getting a little tired of it. We’re looking forward to being able to have time to go jogging & to the gym again. We’re looking forward to doing a lot of cross country skiing this winter, and mostly, we’re looking forward to just sitting around watching movies and stuff! Ok, stay posted for photos.

The scope of our projects is always increasing too. We've had the deadline to get stuff done before the baby comes, but I really don't think it is possible. Every project we almost finish creates a new project to put on the list!

  • the list always keeps growing….. no matter how many projects you finish.
