Today in Testimony Meeting, we had two Native American sisters stand and say some words in their traditional Native American languages. The sisters bore testimony of how important their heritage and native culture was to them. It was wonderful to hear from them, and to hear how they have intertwined LDS culture & theology with Native American culture & theology. There are a number of other Native Americans in our ward, and I always appreciate their comments and insight during sunday school.
I’m grateful of the ward members that are able to bring their cultures with them into the church. One of the sisters grandson is in my 11-year-old Boy Scout patrol. I’ve encouraged him to work on the Indian Lore merit badge, and I hope it provides opportunities for the young scout to connect with his grandmother and his other extended family.
