Good Post, Bad Math

This article from Planetizen discusses the success of the progressive things New York City has been doing to encourage bicycling.  If you’re interested, check it out.  Do not, however, rely on urban planners for help with your statistics homework.  The article includes this confusing tidbit:

With a 35% increase in measured bicycle trips, New York City has effectively doubled bicycle ridership in six years.
Hmm… that’s some interesting math.
