Tree Pruning

Here’s a before and after shot of a boulevard tree in front of our house after we chopped on it for a while. It’s tricky to know who’s responsible for maintaining the boulevard trees. The city doesn’t prune them, but individual homeowners don’t own them either, so sometimes they get a little out of control – like the one in front of our house (or is it in front of our neighbors house???)  The suckers at the base of the trees grow SO FAST!  It’s hard to keep on top of them.  It’s pretty clear from the after photo that this thing hasn’t been pruned in a long time.

  • Oh wow… that tree looks so much better!

  • Maybe it's just me, but I kinda liked all the leaves around the bottom! Although maybe they were starting to get out of control…

  • Darcey, I can understand what you're saying. I don't really mind the greenery and leaves and stuff around the bottom of the tree, and I'll admit that the remaining mass of chopped branches left at the base of the tree is a little unsightly. But I was worried that if I didn't chop it all away, it really would get out of control and eventually they'd be too big to cut with normal pruning shears.

I think Mel and I might consider planting a few new plants/flowers around the base to try and hide the ugly hack job.
