An Ounce of Understanding

I recommend a recent post by Andrew Ainsworth at Mormon Matters. I am grateful for posts like this because it helps me remember that I, too, am blessed to be a member of the LDS church.

How quickly I forget all the positive influence the church has had on my life. How quickly I forget that all of my closest friends and role models I have met through my membership in the church. How quickly I forget that everyone I really admire in the world I have met through my membership in the church. How quick I am to point out every flaw, historical discrepancy, or doctrinal disagreement. There is much I would change about the church, but there is even more I wouldn’t change.

Mel and I are really enjoying our new ward – much more than the student ward. I am proud to be a member of the Ward, and the church. It doesn’t mean I don’t have questions or doubts. But it means I’m willing to overlook them, because I recognize the benefits of the church far outweigh its costs.
